About me

Griot Communications was founded by Joanne Roberts.

ABOUT ME

A self-confessed word nerd, I have 20 years of experience in marketing and communications for small and medium-sized charities – often as the one-woman band! I work to find simple, elegant solutions to fit your budget and brand personality.

I started my career as a freelance journalist writing about social issues impacting Toronto’s deprived communities. From there I honed my skills in charity communications and have written and produced editorial and promotional content for national and local charities and businesses,

Three years as a tutor in English for Speakers of Other Languages have given me an added skillset in facilitation and training, as well as a deeper appreciation for cross-cultural communication.

I help you build your capacity to connect authentically with your audiences, both on and off-line, through copywriting,  content writing and strategy.

WHAT I BRING

Adding value. I’ve gathered huge experience in communications within small and medium-sized organisations. I know what works, what doesn’t. I bring this knowledge and experience to your project.

Passion for authenticity. I strongly believe in the power of excellent communications and authentic storytelling. The right messages and stories can change the world.

Quiet creativity. I delight in coming up with new ideas and producing engaging content and publications that grab your readers’ attention. Content that will help your charity or business brand stand out.

I get it. As the sole marketing and communications lead for small and medium-sized non-profit organisations throughout my career, I understand the challenges you face in balancing capacity and resources. That’s why I offer training and strategic support to help you launch and sustain your campaigns.
